Cartography, knowledge and culture
Geointeractiva is a publisher specialising in school cartography and educational materials. It publishes printed maps and develops digital cartography to bring geographical knowledge to different audiences, from teaching the fundamental concepts to the study of economic, physical and social geography.
A cartographic journey
The publishing collection brings together five decades of cartographic production: wall maps and plates of different themes, scales, sizes and formats, conceived mainly for education.
From printed maps to digital cartography, Geointeractiva keeps to the same line of work: producing and developing cartographic resources that make knowledge of the territory easier to access.
The same knowledge, new formats
In 2012, Geointeractiva took a further step by bringing that knowledge into the digital world. The aim was to extend the possibilities of the map beyond its printed form: to move from a cartography you consult to one you can also explore, connect information and work with.
This evolution led to a dedicated digital cartography environment, built on vector maps and on the ability to adapt, edit and customise the representation of the territory.
Beyond the classroom
Teaching geography has been Geointeractiva's starting point and remains one of its main areas of work. However, the possibilities of digital and vector cartography go beyond the school setting.
Universities, researchers, professionals, institutions and cultural projects can find in maps a tool for representing information, developing their own content and taking on different forms of analysis and dissemination.
Our intention is to keep extending this field of application, offering new users a cartographic base and editing and customisation options that make it possible to work with the map according to the needs of each project.
The map as a tool for knowledge
We see cartography as a way of organising, interpreting and communicating information. A map is not only a representation of the territory: it is also a tool for making connections, recognising patterns and understanding geographical, historical, economic and social processes.
That is why our work is not limited to producing maps. We are interested in extending their possibilities as instruments for reference, learning, research and communication.
The publishing experience built up since 1976 is the starting point of an evolution that remains open to new formats, technologies, disciplines and ways of using maps.
